As it has become known in the marketplace, a demand has become apparent for this Bible in a smaller, more manageable format. Its is therefore now being issued in Personal Size editions, either with or without the Apocrypha. This particular Bible includes the Apocrypha. It is printed on Bible paper, has gold page-edges and two ribbon markers, and is bound in black calfskin leather.

Review of Calfskin Leather Version

Rather than spend the time typing what has already been well-said about the contents of this Bible, please refer to the reviews for the hardcover version: New Cambridge Paragraph Bible with Apocrypha Personal Size KJ590:TA.
Over at the blog bltnotjustasandwich, noted biblical scholar "Theophrastus" had this to say about the new personal-sized edition: "...it seems to me that this edition of the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible gets much closer to the ideally designed Bible."
What I can personally add is that the calfskin leather is extremely supple; it's a true pleasure to handle and easily passes several "Bible yoga" poses. Yes, the Bible does lay open flat. The dimensions of the Bible are adequate for personal, private devotion; and I think it fits in the hand rather nicely. It comes with gilt-edged pages and two red ribbon markers. Some people may find some complaint with the font size, but I personally think it is reasonably proportioned: the paragraph format more than makes up for it in terms of ease of reading. Ghosting is minimal - most noticeably in the poetry sections.
This, quite simply, is the best Bible I have ever owned - and, as many biblicists may understand, that is no laughing matter. However, it will not be everyone's ideal Bible as there is no concordance and virtually no cross-references. It is designed as a reading Bible with adequate margins for notes - and serves that purpose very well. Cambridge is hitting a series of homeruns with these new paragraph-formatted Bibles.

Outstanding Bible!

As a young pastor in the 1970's I was in the vanguard of the movement away from the KJV. After a brief flirtation with the NASB I became an advocate of the NIV when the full Bible came out in 1979. (Still have the '79 edition.) More recently the ESV has become my main translation, HCSB a close second. The 400th anniversary of the KJV drew me to revisit the venerable translation. I have not done extensive comparing of this text v. other KJV's. But the rich cadences are being used by the Holy Spirit to speak to me afresh. I love the paragraph, single column format. The leather is exquisite. At 61 years of age I find the type easy to read. This Bible is worth the price!

Great single column format, but disappointing fit and finish

I first want to say I own many a Bible, and a few from Cambridge. I ordered this as I have been looking for a single column format version of the KJV with the Apocrypha. I had done some reading on the re-release of this version, and ordered it. Well, first off, the text block is fantastic. Reading the Bible in a single column paragraph format is truly a joy. More like reading a book; the text and language flow very nicely. No complaints at all there. However, in regards to the finish of this Bible. Well, lets say it is no where near the quality I have come to expect from Cambridge. The cover, while limp, and Calfskin, is VERY thin. Flexible? Yes, but frankly I believe it to be more from the cheapness of the leather than anything. Next up, the gold edging. There was a horrible "wave" if you will on the finish when viewed in the right light. The gold was also spattered on the front and back covers; inside on the first black protective pages. It also looked like they gilded the page edge after the text block was inserted and there was a jagged line running around the inside of the cover. Lastly, the paper is, well, very non Bible like paper. Thin yes, but cheap feeling as well.
I have since sent the Bible back, as no matter how wonderful the text layout is, the fit and finish were horrible for a Bible in this price range. By comparison, my Cambridge Cameo with Apocrypha is stunning in fit and finish; a true joy to both read and hold. I'm hoping Cambridge releases a version of their Clarion, also single paragraph format, with Apocrypha in the future. I'm not taking any more chances with this low quality version.
