Cambridge Clarion KJV Black Calf Split

This is a beautifully constructed book. Even the cheapest edition is amazingly flexible and a delight to handle. HOWEVER:
1. I was extremely disappointed in the print. It could be much darker and more distinct. Don't say they couldn't do that because the paper is so light in weight. I have a Cambridge Cameo KJV which is even smaller than the Clarion and which has very thin paper which has DARKER PRINT of a comparable size and which is easy to read.
It's possible that part of the problem is the line spacing. Not sure -- but this is nowhere near as easy to read as the Bibles printed the old fashioned way, meaning not computer printing.
They did NOT make the mistake of having the ink run out in the printing process, so the printing job is well handled in that respect and was carefully monitored.
2. I was disappointed to discover that they have left out some of the references which were included in their older Bibles. They had room. Just left the refs out. It's not a matter of whether it's side or center column reference. They had ONE COLUMN to use, and they didn't use it. I like a reference Bible with a complete set of refs, especially for this price. For example, in the Cambridge Cameo KJV which I have, there is a reference at 1 Thessalonians 5:18. There is no reference for that verse in the Clarion edition. An unnecessary deletion.
3. The other disappointment was in the information in the combined concordance and encyclopedia type information in the back of the Bible. I was startled to read that the Apostle Peter did NOT write either of the two books attributed to him by name in the Bible itself. The commentator believes that the books were written by some guy who claimed to be the apostle Peter at a date when Peter would have been dead. If this were so, then the writer of these two Bible books would have lied about who he is and would have LIED ABOUT BEING AN EYE WITNESS TO HIS MAJESTY as he claimed in 2 Peter.
If the writers of sacred scripture are liars about who they are, what they saw, and when they lived, WHY should we believe anything else they say? In my humble opinion, the Bible is God's word, and Jesus, who said "I am the way, the truth, and the life," is NOT going to sponsor lies -- nor is the Holy Spirit going to inspire lies.
I was well aware that Cambridge notes and encyclopedia entries often lean toward liberal interpretations, but this was egregious.
I think it's important for Bible believing Christians to know BEFORE they buy this Bible that the notes in the back are not consistent with belief in the truth of the Scriptures. NOW, that said, if you aren't going to rely on the notes, if you do enjoy the kind of type and the paragraph format -- then you would be purchasing an exquisitely crafted edition of the King James Version of the Bible.
Superior construction of the volume. However, the print is not up to the standard they could have achieved simply by dint of using more ink, and the notes in back are not consistent with conservative theology.
Those are the reasons I have only given it three stars. I hope this information is helpful. I rarely do negative reviews, but it seemed to me that purchasers of a book that is this expensive might appreciate this information. If, knowing this, you choose to purchase the volume, at least you won't be surprised in a negative way.

Optimal Couch-Reading Bible, meant for reading

I am very excited about this review. I am always on the lookout for the perfect couch-reading bible. Big bibles don't work for this because they are heavy and/or floppy. Most bibles of the appropriate size have print that is small and causes eye fatigue. Cambridge has come up with the solution. The Clarion is an all-new bible that combines a convenient size with an extremely legible font.
This bible has an 8.75 font with crisp, dark printing on excellent paper. There is very little ghosting (text showing through the pages). Due to the size of the font, this bible is slightly thicker than the average bible of its size, but it isn't overly thick.
Another excellent feature of this bible is a single-column text setting. The traditional bible has double-column. This bible is made for reading. How many double column novels do you own?
My copy of the Clarion has a black calf-split leather cover. My favorite thing about it is the grain. It has a very pronounced pebble grain, which looks great and has a neat feel to it. It reminds me of vintage bibles that I have held. I can tell that the leather itself is flexible, but the synthetic liners that Cambridge used limit the flexibility. This does not limit my appreciation for this bible.
Many Cambridge bibles have art gilt (red under gold), but they chose to go with gold gilt on the calf-split.
This bible has The Translators to the Readers in the front. Most King James bibles don't have this anymore, so is a nice feature to have.
I am also very impressed with the Readers Companion in the back. It is an extensive bible dictionary with all the people, places, customs, and archaic word definitions you could hope for. There are also 15 maps in the back.
I have already spent a couple hours reading from this bible over the past couple days. I can tell you that I enjoy it immensely. I will likely buy the ESV Clarion when it comes out this winter.

Tremendous Bible

I recently purchased the Clarion Edition of the Cambridge Bible, King James Version, and simply love it. As a pastor, I have been studying the Bible in detail for thirty years, comparing Scripture with Scripture and spiritual things with spiritual things. There are times, however, when I just like to sit and read a large portion of Scripture, and I have found the Clarion Edition an excellent Bible with which to perform this. Instead of being printed in two columns per page as most Bibles, it is printed in a single, expanded column form. This makes it far easier to read straight through and also helps in keeping one's attention. I can highly recommend this Bible not only for its content and lay out but also for its fine quality.
