This book differs from other thermodynamics texts in its objective which is to provide engineers with the concepts, tools, and experience needed to solve practical real-world energy problems. The presentation integrates computer tools (e.g., EES) with thermodynamic concepts to allow engineering students and practicing engineers to solve problems they would otherwise not be able to solve. The use of examples, solved and explained in detail, and supported with property diagrams that are drawn to scale, is ubiquitous in this textbook. The examples are not trivial, drill problems, but rather complex and timely real world problems that are of interest by themselves. As with the presentation, the solutions to these examples are complete and do not skip steps. Similarly the book includes numerous end of chapter problems, both typeset and online. Most of these problems are more detailed than those found in other thermodynamics textbooks. About the Author
Gregory Nellis is the Elmer R. and Janet A. Kaiser Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the Cryogenic Society of America (CSA). Professor Nellis carries out applied research that is related to energy systems with a focus on refrigeration technology and he has published more than 40 journal papers. Professor Nellis' focus has been on graduate and undergraduate education, and he has received the Polygon, Pi Tau Sigma and Woodburn awards for excellence in teaching as well as the Boom Award for excellence in cryogenic research. He is the co-author of Heat Transfer (2009) with Sanford Klein.

Its good book but....

I took the Thermodynamics class that Mr. Klein taught at UW-Madison. This is the first edition of the book and also it was the first time he was using it for a class.
Overall the book has a practical solved example problems, all of which are solved in EES, which is great. The downside is that there aren't enough examples. The problems you would like to solve/learn how to do are are at the end of the chapters and these are neither solved nor have a final answer written under them.
I wouldn't recommend this book if you were trying to learn the material for the first time, but if you did want learn extensively about the functionality of EES(which the author created) this is a good book. If there was a solution manual out there(which there isn't, and is available only to instructors) I would say this is a great book. In fact, I'm looking for a good thermodynamics textbook containing EES problems(and the solutions!) right now.

Clear Explanations, good examples and lots of practice questions for different degrees of knowledge. Its an excellent book to have for anyone interested in thermodynamics and energy systems
